Beyond Smells and Bells: the wonder and power of
Christian Liturgy by Mark Galli.(Paraclete
Press, 2008). A very enjoyable reflection for those
who may be considering joining The Episcopal Church
but never experienced liturgy in their own
upbringing. It is also a good read for those who have
been members of the church for some years. "Thousands
of Christians become interested in liturgy each year
for the first time, as they turn to orthodoxy,
tradition, and the lasting rituals of the Christian
faith. In a culture that values spontaneity, liturgy
grounds us in something enduring...liturgy helps us
experience truth in mind, body and spirit..."
What is Anglicanism? by The Rev. Urban T. Holmes III. (Anglican Studies Series, Morehouse Publishing, original publication date 1982). The late Fr. Holmes, Dean of the School of Theology at the University of the South, Sewanee, TN, was a prolific teacher, author and lecturer in the Episcopal Church. This title, which is one in a series, is a good introduction to Anglican spirituality, authority, Scripture, liturgy and mission.
