Congratulations Cathy Scott

Cathy Scott has been formally admitted as a postulant for Holy Orders for the Diaconate in the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Indianapolis. Having been formally endorsed by the vestry last year as required by canon law, the rector received a formal letter of notification from the Bishop’s Office this past week.

Cathy has completed preliminary requirements of ‘shadowing’ a deacon’s day to day ministry last Lent, out in Plainfield, at St. Mark’s Church. By requirement of the Commission on Ministry, a Discernment /spiritual growth Committee consisting of members of the parish met with Cathy at regular intervals over the past year. She completed an intensive weekend with the Commission on Ministry at Waycross earlier this year.

Because virtually all candidates for the Diaconate must continue in their secular careers/jobs, the program of study for the Diaconate accommodates the diverse needs of each candidate and meet specified weekends of study, class etc.

Cathy has served on vestry, is an acolyte and eucharistic visitor to the hospitalized, nursing homes etc, has organized/facilitated various adult education forums and programs, implemented a very proactive Outreach Committee which is now chaired by Patricia Griffin; she continues to serve on the outreach committee along with others and is one of our regular ‘delivery people’ along with others to the Damien Center Food Pantry from our Sunday ingatherings.

Cathy continues to work with Fr. Dan Billman and others to develop alternative worship services of prayer, Scripture and reflection such as were conducted in the chapel on Thursdays during Advent. These special services which augment our Sunday Mass and worship experiences, are now being offered on selected Sundays in Lent (March 1, 8, and 22nd) beginning with a simple dinner at 5 PM and ending with these Prayer Services in the Chapel.
