OutreachPurpose of Committee: To relate the social needs of the community to the congregation as well as the larger mission-oriented needs and goals of the Episcopal Diocese and National Church.
Committee members worked on various projects throughout the year, as did numerous other parishioners with their own special outreach missions and projects. The Outreach Committee members submitted projects for publication on the All Saints web-site and weekly bulletins to get both the participation and support of the congregation.
Some of the projects in 2010 that were single events included: Dining out for Life (April), Habitat for Humanity panel build at St. Paul’s (April), Pride Festival (June), DaySpring fundraising event (August), Big, Big, Really Big Yard Sale (September), AIDS walk (October), In-gathering of food items at Thanksgiving for the Damien Center (November), and the CHIP Homeless Memorial Service (December). These projects were in some cases fundraising events or events to show support for the needs of specific populations.
Half of the proceeds from the September Yard Sale ($ 1,200) were given to St. Philip’s Episcopal Church for their food program, and the other half of the proceeds ($ 1,200) to a new Outreach fund, available to utilize for special outreach projects and activities in 2011.
Ongoing outreach to our community included the collection of a variety of items that were taken to local agencies to be used right here in Indianapolis. This included 85 pr of socks and 25 pr of underwear for the homeless, taken to the Horizon House; 22 bags of art and school supplies taken to the Julian Center; and 144 bags of food and non-consumables taken to the Damien Center food pantry, in addition to the in-gathering in November. The recycling of paper bulletins was also initiated.
Outreach collections for our neighbors in Mexico included donating 30 pr of eyeglasses to Indiana University School of Optometry for their internships, and 1,000 pill bottles were collected to be taken to Africa for dispensing prescription medicines.
Many projects and activities took place by individual and group efforts not initiated by the Outreach Committee and always welcomed and appreciated by everyone. Some of these included: The Sunday School class at All Saints held a fundraiser and some of the proceeds benefited households in need of food during the holiday season in December; A few parishioners have helped out at the food pantry at St. Phillips, both bagging food, and distributing food in nearby high density residencies downtown; The knitting group meets regularly and donates their products. A card signing for Veterans in the VA Hospital in December was conducted one Sunday and cards were distributed locally.
A special thank you for all the parishioners and Clergy at All Saints for their continued appreciation and support of Outreach activities and missions into the greater community of Indianapolis and beyond.
